Website down

Follow the guidance in this article if your website is down or showing a 524 Error.

We have a monitoring system which detects if any DNS records have gone missing.

Check and add CNAME

If your website is down, check and add the following CNAME:

If you are currently configuring your DNS then please disregard this. If you have not made any changes then we'd recommend you double check that the CNAME is in place.

Who is my DNS provider?

This is information your IT / Operations Manager is likely to hold. If in doubt, you (or whoever looks after your accounting) can check for billing records about registration or transfer of your domain name.

Alternatively, you could use ICANN Lookup – add your domain name and scroll down to Registrar Information in the results page: this is usually your DNS provider. If that information is blank or you can’t sign in with your listed registrar, your domain may be hosted by a reseller, so you’ll need to scroll down in those Lookup results to the Raw Registry RDAP Response and search for the Reseller entry.

123 Reg as DNS provider

If your DNS provider is 123 Reg please check if the following A record is present in the DNS dashboard:

  • Host: www

  • Type: A

  • Target: 94.136.40.82

If the record is there, remove it and add back your CNAME.

If your website is still down after taking the steps above, please reach out to us via the Digital Assistant and request to speak to an agent.
