Set up payment providers for UK and Ireland

Follow these steps to add payment providers within the UK and Ireland.

Written by Cristiana Ghinea

When a visitor on your site decides to donate, book a ticket or buy an item from your shop, the payment will be processed by one of our providers:

  • Stripe handles all one-off payments such as donations, tickets, and purchases in the shop.

  • GoCardless manages all regular Direct Debit payments.

📌 Note: You have the option to set your payment providers up in 'test' mode if you wish to test payment journeys on your site before it goes live but this isn't compulsory.

Set up payment providers

  1. Select the Payments module in the Manager.

  2. Click Switch to live Payments.

    • You will notice that Stripe, GoCardless, and Paypal are no longer connected and instead the links displays Not connected.

  3. Click the Connect with Stripe to create a Stripe account.

  4. You will be taken to Stripe's website and you should follow the steps from there to create your account.

    • If you created a test Stripe account you can login and connect to Stripe live payments using the same account details. If you didn't do any testing, create a new account here.

  5. Click the Connect Account link to create a GoCardless account.

  6. You will be taken to GoCardless' website and you should follow the steps from there to create your account.

    • To enable live GoCardless payments, you must create a new account. Even if you created a ‘test’ GoCardless account previously, you’ll still need to create a new account. Please ensure you select the Standard package when prompted.

  7. Once you've create both Stripe and GoCardless accounts you will be brought back to the Manager and both providers will now say Connected next to them.

  8. Close down your test GoCardless account once your live GoCardless account is linked to the platform. This will stop any recurring test payments you have set up.
