Bots from our cookies partner Termly scan your website on a weekly basis to identify new cookies used, for you to categorise. When this shows up in your GA4 data (as a regular weekly spike in traffic to all pages), this will skew the data available to you.
However, you can exclude this traffic from both future reporting and views of historical data.
Exclude Termly cookies bot traffic (weekly spikes) from future GA4 data
Define the Termly IP addresses as 'Internal' traffic
Click Admin and select Data Streams/Web stream.
Scroll down to Configure tag settings.
Scroll down and click Show more.
Select Define internal traffic.
Select Create and name your rule Termly bots.
Traffic_type value should be internal.
Add IP addresses, each in a new line: ‘Match type: 'IP address equals’, then the following IPs.

Test and apply filter in live
The scans take place weekly, so wait for a week after defining the IP addresses before checking the filter in test mode.
Click Reports from the left-hand menu.
Click Acquisition.
Click Traffic acquisition.
Under the heading, click Add filter.
Set Dimension to Test data filter name.
Set Match type to Does not exactly match.
Enter Termly bots as the value.
Check the filter to confirm it is working and that weekly spikes from Termly traffic are now blocked.
Once you’re happy the filter is working in test, set it active:
Click Admin.
Click Data filters.
Click Internal traffic.
Change the filter state from Testing to Active.
Click Save.
Exclude Termly cookie bot traffic (weekly spikes) from views of historical data
Traffic from Termly cookie bots has the 'Town/City' tagged as 'Boardman'.
Filter out Termly cookie bots data from reports
For reports such as 'Traffic acquisition' or 'Events':
Click Add Filter below the title on the report page.
Under Dimension, select Town/city in the Geography section.
Under Match Type, select Does not contain.
Under Value, type Boardman.
Click Apply.
📌 Note: You can also save this view by adding the same filter to 'Report Filter' under 'Customise report'.
Filter out Termly cookie bots data from snapshots / overview
For snapshots or overviews:
Click Add comparison on the snapshot or overview page.
Select All Users and click Create new.
Under Dimension, select Town/city in the Geography section.
Under Match Type, select Does not contain.
Under Value, type Boardman.
Click Apply.
The new 'comparison' metrics will exclude the Termly cookie bot traffic. The comparison will also then be available across all reports during that GA4 session.
